BURNT OUT
Printed photographs, knitted and bleached yarn, fabric, chicken wire, and thread. Approx. 36” x 60”.
Burnt Out” is a self-portrait collage of the artist created 2021-2022, during the second year of her MFA in Studio Art program at American University. While in school, Katie worked part-time as a nurse and centered her thesis on the impact of nursing culture and the Covid-19 pandemic on nurses. The sculpted collage leans against the wall in exhaustion with the left leg built with chicken wire and fabric, physically pushing into the viewer’s space. Personal fabrics and photographs are cut, bleached, and layered.
Artwork installation at Touchstone Gallery in Washington, DC as part of the group exhibition “Introspection,” 2022.
